No offense to the devs, but 0.20 was your best version and it shows in how many people you had in the main game. Anyways, my main point is this:

Start over and keep the positives based on the public's opinion.

I hope that PJ and Tarnus can admit that this game is a sinking ship (the numbers don`t lie). Sure, you have the players that will stick around, but show me the statistics of players per game in 0.20 compared to 0.30

By the way, here's my one suggestion to stop the manipulation of team cash transfer and other team manipulation exploits as I think that what is currently being done isn`t the best idea.

a) Attainable skills (a la EvE Online) - Sure, you could earn 1 quadrillion credits, but you'll still be flying relatively weak ships and have weak defenses until you take the time to learn these skills.

b) Make score based more on skill and what it can be used on. I.E. A player owns an Excelsior but cannot fly it, it's score is 5% of what it could be if the player were to fly it.

Well, it seems that our bloggers seem to have moved on. It's kind of sad, blog updates used to happen non-stop and it wouldn't be surprised to see my latest blog disappear under other blog updates later on in a week.

So, what's new? What's the deal with the game? Where is everybody? How's the game going?

I took a trip to the Thunderdome, lots of new weird stuff on the screen, but I suppose it's a nice addition.

Yes I'm alive, I've been busy exploring the interwebs, trying other games and of course, real life. I decided to stop by since e-Commerce is fairly boring and its hard not to think about lunch...

I had a laugh when I tried to look at the rankings and I got this message:

"You are using a lag cheat or you are in too much of a hurry. Wait for the page to load."

Nice to see the game is moving forward, kind of depressed that the game hasn't really "taken off" in terms of numbers. I think the best games are the massive ones but that's just my opinion.

So the time I used to spend on AAT has had to shift to other interests. I'm playing on the 360, another browser based and real life.

Anywho, I may come back and finish this "blog" up... but its lunch time.

When I compare this game to other games, I find this game to take far too much time and thought to play and I am not talking about just playing online. When you log off, your assets are frozen but your cash is still allowed to grow. Fair enough, very reasonable.

However, and this is the too much time and thought into it, if you are in a moment of power say top 5 or in first place on the server, you cannot help but make sure that your empire is still safe. We are all guilty of it, I know players that will log into the game for one second to ensure cash is consolidated and so forth. Personally, I found it tiring when I played so I upgraded to 260, which is a good long wait between consolidations.

To summarize, to be generally successful (I say this because there are obvious ways to strike gold quickly) in this game is to be online all the time. I find that disappointing and I hope that PJ and Tarnus can find a way so that this game is not so time consuming.

Don't like it for multiple reasons:

a) Too bright, its supposed to be a game in space, now it looks like a government page.
b) The old look could bring interest to the game, this one is plain and white, it's not something that can entice a passersby to stopping and taking a good look.
c) The background should be a starry background like the last one. This one just leaves me unfilled as a consumer of the site.

Tourney is over, my team composing of Oakman, Hedron and myself won by about 15 million points. We went into cruise control going into the final weekend, otherwise we would have won by a greater margin.

Congrats to Oakman for finishing first. We played a fair game although someone will disagree.

Congrats to all on a fun tourney.

Now time for some R&R.

A lot of things have happened since the tourney began, I didn't feel like blogging once every 2-3 days and felt it best to surmise the tourney per week.

I am currently holding a two million point lead over Morpheus (Shess), and I am nearing the 50 planet mark since Tensa (Nexus) decided to makes an arms race and try to gain on me by outnumbering me in terms of planets. A lot of players have either died, or didn't start, notable is Phaser, who didn't even log in after the tourney began.

Big arrived 2 days ago, he's generated a small amount of wealth, however, his planet didn't last long and his score has remained stagnant (barrring one embezzlement he received).

Day 1: Started off the tourney with a few good traderoutes, found myself quickly in the top 5, Ghost Rider (supposed cheater) exploded with a 200 k lead. He decided to attack my sector, even though I was at a severe disadvantage, I held my ground, hit him with a sector missile, and retrieved my planets, making sure to add a few SDs before I concluded for the night. Much to my surprise, when I found that I had a spy on Ghost Rider's ship.

Day 2: I tended to my planets mostly, took some cash to upgrade my newly bought Endeavour. Max, had already purchased a Razorback, so I sent him Ghost Rider's coordinates as he moved through space. Max had some luck, but nothing that really hurt Ghost Rider's score. I later found and revealed Ghost Rider's home planet to Max, however, there was nothing he could do about it at the time since he did not have sufficient cash to upgrade his ship to defeat the planet. Later on in the night, as I tended to my planets, Ghost Rider logged on, in a flurry of actions I got into my SM window, and had him podded. The next 5 minutes were tense as I waited for him to return to his home, and perhaps, I could get a chance to pod him again. Unfortunately, I missed him, but I found that there was little to no time for Ghost to get a pod. A side note: Liquid was the first to die, he commit suicide and it is surmised he gambled away his funds in the casino.

Day 3: I spent the morning contemplating a sufficient ship cost to hit Ghost Rider, I knew that with my cash and loan, I would not hit the planet for much, so, in desperation, I borrowed cash from Morpheus (shess) and upgraded my new Razor, I defeated the planet in 3 rounds, and then killed Ghost Rider, due to his lack of a pod. The cash on the planet was sufficient to pay off Shess and to pay off my loans. Later that day, I took the lead as my planet (renamed Juggernaut) with 9 B colos produced 109 B in 5 hours.

Day 4: I spent most of the day maintaining my planets which were growing rapidly, my score was increasing at a rapid rate which gave me a large lead. Day 4 I reserved for hunting and mine laying, I podded Poseidon, and after I promised not to go after him unless he annoyed me, he tried to SM me. After a little scuffle with no injuries on either side, I built a few planets in my SG, and left them. If I was lucky, no enemies would find it and I'd put some SDs down in the morning.


Day 5: Max Griswald (John Mcclane) was booted out of the tourney by Alf for language, which took out my nearest threat since he was a close second. I was relieved, I suspected Max might have pulled something in the days to come that would cripple my chances,  just a suspiscion. I took down Poseidon and plundered his planets. Other than that, just tended to sectors of importance and increased SD levels to an adequate amount.

Day 6:Explored a bit, and took an SG that used to belong to Darow (Hedron), he messaged me the sector, it was a nice gift as it led to expansion. Indies have begun to pop up, although the planets were extrememly strong, and not worth fighting for. Tensa began an arms race, building 50 or more planets, I later built enough to keep up with him, just so he couldn't make an exceptional gain on me.

Day 7: Today, I have a 2 million point lead, and other than that, not much more to report. Update: I returned from the Borne Ultimatum (which kicked ass) to find that I had lost a few RS planets, and a Razor I haven't used in a while. Ash was the culprit, and needless to say, I was not amused. I spent the next 3 hours scouring the universe and managed to clean him out. I podded him and according to statistics, he no longer has any planets left.

Day 8: Saturday was rather slow, I spent 85% of my time exploring, I've nearly got every nook and cranny of the galaxy discovered. I have found a few SGs, some that I took tonight. Unfortunately, my hand is being forced, I needed to cooperate with other players to get something done. Tensa has taken over second, he has been continuously building and I feel he is forcing my hand, if I can't find him, then I shall outbuild him, I do have a SC ready for the job.

Edit: Things are jumbled in my head. I may not remember everything.

Day 9: Tensa surpassed me, I spent the day building planets to try to catch up to him. I podded Ash later when I searched for Tensa.

Day 10: Ash took one of my three SGs, I was fortunate not to put everything in one SG, otherwise, I'd wind up dead. Did some searching and I finally found Tensa. I captured 87 planets in the span of my remaining 50 minutes, grabbed 300 T, and managed to secure my SG before logging out with 7 minutes to spare.

Day 9-12: Did nothing but upgrade and consolidate. I had a 12 million point lead at this point, and I did not think anyone would catch up.

Day 13: Took a lunch break at work and decided to log in. Ash was trying to break down the walls of my SG, well, with the speed of library computers (compareable to dial up) I podded him. Funny stuff.

Day 14: Finished! I didn't even log in. Finished with 11 kills, 0 deaths, not bad.

  Title: Singles Tournament + Thunderdome

The singles tournament is nearly 27 hours away, and only 16 players have joined, noticeable absences include: Oakman, Moonraker, Shesshomarou, PhirePhly, Rampage, A-Blitz, ak5intoe and Tarnus. Does this mean we'll have a flurry of last minute submissions? Only time will tell. However, Ash and Phaser and Big have returned from their prolonged absences, which may stir things up a little, welcome back to you all.

I have predicted favourites for this tournament, through experience and through blogs of the last few years. My prediction for winning the singles tournament goes between 2 individuals: Big and Phaser. Both of these players have shown resilience in their attacks, Phaser returned not 4 weeks ago, and he has constantly been in the news for attacking one person or the other and is starting to edge into the top 20. Consistency is an issue for Big, however, if he remains so, then expect him to cut a few lives short in the tourney.

The Top 10 has basically remained stagnant, with ak5 and Tarnus exiting (and Tarnus reentering) the Top 10 within the period of a month. Things have gotten so boring that myself and Shesshomarou have created a mini Thunderdome, and hunted each other in Endeavours, since prices begin to become outrageous from there. We already had a small series, in which Shess won 2-1 (the last game stringing out for 40 minutes, in which a few skirmishes were fought and sector missiles fired). Which brings up a question.

Where is the Thunderdome?

Recent characters have heard the legends of such a place, where life expectancy is less than 6 hours. The Beta has been inactive for nearly a year! Perhaps a Thunderdome and be built in its place until a Beta is required for further testing? Anyways, thats my two cents about the matter.

Fuel scoops are a pain, why are they permanent?

Sure, they are a valuable asset for trading, and definitely an asset in 0.2. But with the introduction of the sector missile, they've lost their lustre.

a) High energy = bad, particularly in fighting.
b) Sector Missile

So, I request that fuel sccops can be uninstalled if needed to be by the player. If this could be done, it would prove to be more convienient to everyone.

Well, it has been a while, but my team has finally reached first, yet again.

Seems that some good luck on my team's part, and bad luck on Trouble's team, has made it easier for us to obtain team domination.

Ironically, Rampage, my teammate is in second, while I took over 5th place last night. Eight Ball and Mary Jane are also picking up the pace and are increasing their score, so honestly, this was a team effort.

Hockey is coming to an end, I am picking Anaheim to win the Cup because they play a better and more physical game, and also because I dislike Ottawa


  Title: Tourney: Day 7-12, Main Update

Tourney: Days 7-12

Our team sat on top of the tourney with literally no competition until day 7, which seemed to be the turning point.

Day 7: We were attacked by Thunderball and A-Blitz, so the basic majority of the team accepted their losses and moved to the other SG.

Day 8: We were than attacked by Overlords, with literally no place to go, we lost all critical sectors.

Days 9 - 12: Tried to get some minor planets going but they never got too far along.

I did find it ironic, that it took two teams (who did not attack each other after their separate attacks on us) were so coordinated. A NAP perhaps? If so, its fair, I have no problem with that. It is ironic though, that it took two teams to take us down.

I think I finished 15, which was rather weak, I was aiming for top 10 but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Of course, this was my first one, so I suppose its better than nothing. I did leave this tourney with a few lessons learned.

Main

I am currently in 8th place, catching up to Eechick and being tailed by Moonraker. I finally decided to go over 50 planets, see if I can maintain the empire.

I've also been dropping mines, I have apporx 1000 sectors mined, ironically, Troublemakers only hit my mines when I'm offline. Not sure what they're looking for... but my trail will always lead them to Sol.

I'm also working on a minor project in main, some people may notice it and others will continue playing and be totally unaware of the masterpiece

Well, did some attacks and got attacked, it was a few RS Planets, good cash planets but I knew they wouldn't last.

Anywho, the team has joined together to do something so big, I have been sworn to secrecy or else:O Other that that, things are going good.

My team, Legion of Steel has claimed the lead and we hold it comfortably 1 million ahead of A-Blitz's team, Blitzkrieg.

OverLords had to deal with Staley (who probably won't be playing anymore team tourneys for his theatrics) as well as the loose cannon known as Big.

Big is a classic example of "Survival of the Fittest", not being able to adapt to the changes, he quits raving about an "exploit". But I digress...

I am currently in 4th of 31, which is pretty good considering it is my first tourney. I am maintaining pace by consistently building, otherwise, not much more to report. Just trying to tend to my and teammate's planets as much as I can.

Today was more uneventful, I was more at school and a friend then anything. I watched Max go on an attacking spree which resulted in a casualty of Big.

Well, things started off well, I did some independent trading in the afternoon, and then worked on a team-shared ship towards a snowball. And thus, the controversy begins.

Some people think the fact that you can share a ship is an exploit.

Hmm... It seems to me, that an issue brought up 11 months ago, talking about an "exploit", would be fixed by now. Ironically, it hasn't. Why? Its fair, its part of the game. Borrowing ships are in. Some people are complaining because they don't like it....

Just because some of you are still used to an old fashioned snowball, and don't like the selfless acts me and my team did to get where we did, too bad. This is not 0.20 anymore, this is 0.30, new features, new strategies, new game. If you don't like it FunDemental has some old 0.20 veterans that don't like this game either, for different and much more justified reasons.

Oh, and for those that still think this is cheating and want to use the "I have experience" line, please don't. You may have experience, but experience doesn't mean crap if you bring it up all the time and/or, start using it in a verbal dispute (I know some of my teammates were a bit out of hand with their comments) but if you really are EXPERIENCED then show it by being the one that doesn't escalate to their level.

Little under 36 hours to go...

Well it was a nice surprise to team with Phire, even nicer that I got picked so high up in the draft (apparantly I was her 3rd pick and 8th overall). Its nice that my actions are noticed

Teams are all star studded, Big and Oakman, Tarnus and ABlitz, just to name a few.

I am humbled to play along Moonraker, DarkSoul, Max Griswald, and PhirePhly. Hopefully, I'll be able to keep up and perhaps, learn a thing or two in this tourney.

I am currently working on a musical playlist that I'll use for the tourney... will probably post it by the weekend.

Wanted to wish everyone good luck in the tourney, and remember, its only a game, don't take it too seriously.

For my first tourney, this looks like its going to be an interesting tourney. It looks like we have a lot of players looking for a chance to rank supreme, at least until the next tourney.

The draft will be interesting, I wonder who will go where, and where I will go... I'm not sure what others think of me Nevertheless, I will play, last picks do play, right?

Its nice to see lots of veterans (too many to list!) return to main and for the tourneys, perhaps more shall return in the future, makes for a more entertaining game. So until the tourney starts, I will think of ideas to try to use for the tourney, and perhaps, a musical playlist to amuse me during those long days....

Thought this would amuse someone, I enjoyed it, you gotta have guts to ride on a bike, carelessly, through the centre of New York. Also, it proves that us bike riders can have the upper hand in some areas

Well, I'm happy to see the main game over 100 people again, and lots of players returning from their hiatuses.

Welcome back to Moonraker, Oakman, and Langel and any others I have forgotten about.

The game has gotten generally boring now that I am tending to my stock of planets, and I don't see it getting much more exciting, for me anyways. Although if we had a bigger pool of players, that wouldn't be a problem Only problem is getting people to stay, you either like it, like it and die and rejoin, like it and die and forget about it, or you don't understand it and forget about it, to be swept away two weeks later by a purge.

Some of the people that dislike the changes say they don't like the cap or the fact that they can't explore like they used to. Obviously there will be those that will stick to those old servers, but I ask them to consider, if what you can do with 2500 planets is superb, what can you do with 50? Or dare I say, you go over the limit and tend to the planets. Why? Do you ask, is there a 50 planet cap? Simple, some servers can't take the heat of each player having 1000+ planets.

Although I do wonder how much heat the main server can take. If 0.20 only took up 20% CPU (I think I heard), then how much can it hold?

Throughout my times of playing AAT, I have played on several servers. All of them were fun and very exciting. Here are a few servers I recommend:

1. AATrade 0.30

This server is always full of fun. It is meant to be long term and usually contains 60+ active players and is currently playing the new 0.30 version. There are several skilled players as well, so if you're looking for a challenge, look no further.

2. FunDMental AAT Standard Fast - V 0.20

This server is fun because it has a faster set up, and a few custom ships for a player to make use of. Also, this server has stronger ships then those in a normal server, but thats the point of a "Fast" game. This server also contains many skillful players on the 0,20 circuit that haven't made the jump to 0.30, this is a good game if you want a challenge in the older version of AAT.

3. GTW v.0.27 (Reworked)

This game is absolutely crazy. This game is fully customized with unique graphics and ships. You'll never run out of cash in this game, a normal amount of cash is quadrillions of credits. It has small bugs that are rather a nuisance but still provides a good game. Planets generate very quickly and scores are sky high! If you're looking for a twist in the game, here it is!

I have finally reached the Top 20 again after being blown out of the water by Ak5intoe.

In need of a bigger mask, it was decided that I get this one.



The mask was custom-painted by Michel Lefevre.



Lefevre also painted Patrick Roy's goalie masks.



I found this in the store and I was astounded by how big and light it was. Its definitely a keeper

1.0 - Introduction


Hello fellow Traders,

This is a tutorial to get you started in the AATraders Universe. It's a big, bad universe out there, and if you don't know how to move around, you'll either end up in a pod, or a casket. Don't worry though, this tutorial is here  to help you become a better player. Once you get the gist of things, you'll be on your way.

So on with the learning!

1.1 - Most Important thing you'll ever buy

Before you even think about using any ship for anything, consider the following:

Escape Pod - This is the most important part of a ship, it's your lifeline, get caught without one and its game over. So before you go off and build, attack, scout, or trade. Remember the escape pod. No second chances after dying.

1.2 - Items that can be found or purchased in Space

This is a list of everything and anything that can be found, purchased in ports, or generated by planets.

1.2.1 - Commodities

There are 5 major commodities, these commodities can be used on a planet by colonists, or traded between ports by you. Each commodity has a function on a planet, which will be explained later.

Organics - Organics are your food, they feed the colonists on your planets. Organics can be found in ports with as their port logo.

Goods - Goods supply your planet with armor, to protect it from attack. It is of no use to your ship, armor is purchased at an Upgrades port. You can find Goods in a Port with as its port logo.

Ore - Ore is a major supplier in producing armor. It is an important factor in repairing or building armor for a planet if it has suffered under an attack. However, it is irrelevant to your ship. You can find Ore in a port with as its port logo.

Energy - Energy is important to your ship and your planets. Energy powers the shields and beam weapons on both your ship and planets. Energy can be found in a port with as its port logo.

Colonists - Colonists are the people on your planets, they generate commodities, fighters, torpedos, or money. However you need to set the percentages for that (this will be explained later). They will reproduce in given time and fill up a planet to one billion or more. They are irrelevant on your ship, though. Colonists can be found in ports with as its port logo.

Purchaseable Items (exempting commodities)

All items of any use are listed below, listed in categories.

1.2.2 - Offensive Items:

Fighters - A main offence of your ship, its strengths are against armor, but are weak against shields. Can be used to fight, or a Sub Orbital Fighter Attack (I will explain later). Can be generated by planets.

Torpedos - The second main offence of your ship, its strengths are armor, while its weakness is shields. It can be used to fight. It can be generated by a planet.

Nova Bomb - Although it is expensive, the nova bomb provides excellent firepower when attacking a planet. It will decrease the strength and integrity of the planet. Be aware, that it may backfire or destroy the planet.

Sector Missile - The newest acquisition to the offensive lineup. The sector missile is a missile meant to hit ships. However, yu need to be in another sector and to do a full scan of the sector to have the option. This missile works off of the ship's energy. One successful hit is all you can get.

1.2.3 - Defensive Items:

Here is a list of items that can be used for defensive purposes.



1.3 - Breakdown of your Ship

Any ship you own has 11 different categories to upgrade. Each with a particular benefit towards the ship. Cyan represents energy based categories, yellow represents miscellaneous, and red represents combat based.

Hull - Your cargo hold, an important factor in trade, the more you upgrade it, the bigger it gets. An important tool for the builder type of player.

Engine - Your propulsion device, engines determine how many turns you use to get from A to B. In a battle situation, if a ship were to attack you, it is possible that you can outmauever the opponent. When you upgrade engines, you use less turns to travel anywhere in space.

Power - Contains the power you purchase from an Energy Port, or collected from a planet, or with a Fuel Scoop. Power is used to use shields, and beam weapons. It is not a good suggestion to have low power, and high shields or beam weapons, as your stored energy shall deplete very quickly. Energy is easily refillable, the fuel scoop steadily refills energy on your ship as you travel.

Fighter Bay - One of three components that are the offence on your ship. Fighter Bay determines the number of Fighters you may carry at one time on your ship, they can then be used to attack a planet, or sector defences left by an opponent. Fighters can be purchased from an Upgrades Port, or taken off a planet generating them. The more you upgrade the Fighter Bay, the more fighters you are capable of carrying.

Sensors - Sensors are your "eyes" in the Universe. They are important in determining how strong a planet or a sector is. Sensors can become unreliable if the planet or sector that you are scanning, has a strong Jammer, Cloak, or Sector Defence Cloak (see Planet Categories). The more you upgrade sensors on your ship, the more reliable they will become, and the more you can see.

Armor - The last line of defence for your ship. Your ship can only take so much damage before it sends you in a pod to Sol, the more armor your ship loses, the more suspectible it is to damaging your ship components. Armor can be located in a Upgrades Port, and can be easily refilled so your ship can look good as new. The more you upgrade your armor, the more armor your ship has at one time.

Shields - Shields normally take the brunt of any hit, do not be worried if your shields are hit, they're supposed to. Shields are fueled by energy on your ship, you will notice after leaving combat, that your energy will decrease. The shields of your ship are always at 100% unless, you do not have the energy to power your shields. Note that Beam Weapons also use energy. It is recommended to have Power at the same level as your shields to have a good amount of power at any given time. As you upgrade your shields, the capacity of your shields increases.

Beam Weapons - Beam Weapons are the second component that use energy during combat and the second component of offence on your ship. Beam Weapons are highly efficient at deducting shields against an enemy ship or planet. It should be recommended to keep Beam Weapons balanced with Power and Shields. As you upgrade Beam Weapons, the capacity of your Beam Weapons increases.

Torpedo Launcher - Torpedo Launchers are highly effective against armor of an opposing planet or ship. Torpedo Launchers are the third component of offence on your ship. Torpedo Launchers are extremely efficient when attacking planets. A mass majority of torpedos will be launched if you attack a planet. Not to worry, Torpedo Launchers are refillable at an Upgrades Port, or a personal planet that generates Torpedos. As you upgrade Torpedo Launchers, the amount you can carry at one time increases.

Cloak - Cloak conceals your ship, if strong enough, allowing you to slip through Sector Defences of a sector, be undetected by opposing ships, or drop spies on a planet. Cloak can also help in the combat phase, a ship attempting to attack you may not get a good scan on you, and would need to try again. As you upgrade Cloak, it makes it more difficult for the opponent to see you and gives you a greater chance to sneak into an enemy sector.

ECM - ECM stands for Evasive Combat Manuevers. Generally speaking, this component decreases the amount of fighters that can hit you in a combat phase. It is a very helpful component for any varient of attack. When you upgrade ECM, you are making your enemy's attacks less effective.
